Now

What I've been up to lately and what's on my mind. Updated monthly-ish.

Updated

I’ve been busy throughout May with boring IRL stuff, and I’m having a bit of writer’s block in regards to content for this website (including this Now update), so I’m just going to sound off on a few non-IRL things that were a nice distraction.

The web is weird

I just wanted to give a shout out to the Weird Wide Web Hole newsletter by Salma a.k.a. whitep4nth3r, each email has links to genuinely weird and cool things throughout the internet. Through it I discovered the hilarious PodCube Explorer and the wonderful short firm DUCKS. If you have a few minutes to spare, check both of these out and thank me Salma later.

This house is clean(-ish)

I found out about Website Carbon, a website that estimates the CO2 footprint of other websites. Apparently my own website emits 0.04g of CO2 per visit, which makes it cleaner than 93% of global website. I am not sure what to do with this information, but I felt the need to share it. (And pad out this post.)

Liminal soundscapes

I like to listen to music while doing just about anything — working, coding, cleaning, etc. More often than not I will just do a playlist or shuffle from my Plex library via Plexamp, but lately I’ve been preferring LoFi and ambient music for these situations. I already listen to plenty of LoFi Girl, because it seems to have the effect of making my dogs chill out and take a nap, rather than bothering me when I’m busy.

I recently discovered a channel on YouTube called Odd Behavior that makes custom music with a backdrop of various liminal spaces, almost like these spaces themselves inspired the sounds. It’s very cool and you should check it out if you’re into that sort of thing. (Also available on Spotify.)

That’s all for now, thanks for reading if you made it this far.
